Effing Coronavirus

Trump’s travel ban sent me into a tizzy.  News reports were unclear and confusing.  If I wanted to return to the US should I do it before 12:00 midnight on Friday??  Then, it became clear that the ban did not apply to US citizens.  What a relief.  But what are the procedures and guidelines for returning?  It’s unclear.

My dilemma seemed to be where would I rather be sick/where was the greatest chance of being infected with the virus.  I truly believe that the Spanish healthcare system is among the best in the world, at least equal to the US – so that isn’t a concern.  However, the lack of a support system here is concerning.  Communicating with doctors and navigating the Spanish healthcare system could be daunting alone.

On the other hand, I don’t want to leave, and are the requirements for returning to the US under the terms of the ban also daunting?

My daughter pointed out that where I am living I am virtually quarantined.  I’m miles from other people.  Why would I want to leave my gorgeous perch?

For the moment, I’m taking a wait-and-see position.  I am going to stock up on food and booze and prepare to wait it out.  I’m sure I’ll have plenty of Netflix, Amazon Prime and Acorn time to come.  And the dogs and I will be together.

Write me!  I’ll be in isolation!

  1. Rainey is right. Besides you have the essentials re booze etc. not to mention a room with a dynamite view. Sadly we cannot visit as the State Dept. discourages travel abroad now. Wanna play Scrabble with friends?!

  2. Yep I would stay put too. Come home —to your American home—when you are supposed to come. It is a very crazy world we live in right now. Everything is shutting down. Ugh. I try not to get depressed about it but I do worry. I have an office to run with an overhead. Have had so many cancellations. Who would have ever expected this to happen???

  3. Nick and I went to Costco and stocked up yesterday (his idea, my card). They were out of rice and Doritos. Lol. Maybe toilet paper too. I am basically sheltered in place too though I really don’t FEEL like I’m at risk. But in truth we are in that age group so I’m watching the news and can’t believe how reactionary the community is. Stock market is scary. I just hope the house sale goes through. If I were you I would stay there but there’s a pall over the fun for sure. Are they sold out of purel?

  4. Fortunately you do have some neighbors to ease any cabin fever. I think you’ll be fine.

Still crazy times, though; we’re living through history.

  5. Hey my friend!
I didn’t know that you were even in Spain! That in itself is quite sad…
Had Mikey check in with Rainey last night. She told him that you are staying put which I think is a great idea. Damn! I can’t get out and they won’t let me in even if I did get out to come visit. Take good care and will see you when all of this craziness has passed. 😘
